The Huawei P20 Pro is one of the best camera smartphones released this year and its successor which will launch as the Huawei P30 Pro seems set to take over when it launches in a few months. A new leak of a yet-to-be-announced Sony image sensor may be one of the cameras that may crown the P30 king.

Sony IMX607 Document

The sensor is the Sony IMX607 and an official document that contains all its features was leaked on Weibo yesterday. The Sony IMX607 is a 38MP CMOS sensor according to the document and one of its main features is its “exceptional low-illumination performance”.

The 1/1.8 inch sensor which is designed for use in phones, tablets, and computer cameras uses a Dual Bayer instead of Quad Bayer. It also adds a White HDR Coding array. The document also says the Sony IMX607  has a high signal-to-noise ratio, quad pixel PDAF, advanced noise reduction and three native ISOs (50/500/5000).

Huawei is said to have worked together with Sony on the IMX600 in the Mate 20 series and may collaborate again with the Japanese manufacturer for the Huawei P30.

The Huawei P30 won’t launch until the first quarter of 2019 and if they decide to follow’s the same schedule as this year, that means it will be announced in March. That is enough time for more details to surface about the device. At the moment, a confirmed feature is the Kirin 980 processor which powers the Mate 20 series.
