Xiaomi is all set to host the February 20 launch event where the Mi 9 flagship will be officially unveiled. The Chinese tech giant has been very generous with details of the device and one interesting thing is that the details are being shared on its Weibo handle as well as on other Western social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter. This is unprecedented for the flagship product and could be an indication that the Mi 9 flagship will be available in China and globally at the same time. Such a move has the potential to give Xiaomi the needed push. While we wait for the launch to commence in less than 24 hours, the tech giant has shared more details of the device on its official Facebook page.Xiaomi mi 9

The details centre on improvements on the Mi 9’s UI as well as some new features that are not on its predecessors. One of the teaser posters shows that the Mi 9 will have a dedicated Google Assistant button on the side which is the bottom left side of the display. Google services are banned in China so the Chinese version may come with Xiaomi’s XiaoAI assistant. Another set of posters point to several improvements in the user interface (UI) that now includes a Night Mode known as Dark Mode which help in power saving. The Dark mode is touted to reduce display power usage y 83% under full brightness and by 50% when the brightness is at half way.Xiaomi mi 9

Further, the Mi 9 is shown to come with Always On display feature as well as Dual GPS feature for better positioning in crowded cities. The dual GPS feature is powered by a new NFC chip using the L1 and L5 interchangeably. Last year’s Mi 8 didn’t have an IR blaster but Xiaomi says the Mi 9 will come with an IR blaster which is a vital add-on for those who love the Mi remote control which it powers. Finally, the Mi 9 will also come with automatic smart antenna switching and 4×4 MIMO support which is a given with the latest Snapdragon 855 chipset.

With the flurry of details already out in the open, all that is left is for Xiaomi to reveal the global pricing and availability.
