In May, Samsung had launched a new 64-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor. Soon after its launch, rumors started swirling that the upcoming Galaxy A70s from Samsung could be the first smartphone to carry the 64-megapixel camera sensor. According to industry leaker Ice Universe, apart from a Galaxy A series phone, a Redmi smartphone will also feature the new camera sensor.

According to the tipster, Samsung will carry out the international premiere of the 64-megapixel camera sensor through a mysterious Galaxy A series phone and an upcoming Redmi phone will be featuring it in China. It remains to be seen which of these may launch as the world’s first smartphone with 64-megapixel sensor.

64MP ISOCELL GW1

The 64-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor can capture 16-megapixel images in low-light scenarios through Samsung’s Tetracell technology. The sensor also supports up to 100db real-time HDR. Phones featuring it will allow users to capture 1080p slow-motion videos as well as Super PD PDAF technology. The mass production of the 64-megapixel camera sensor is expected to begin in the second half of 2019. Hence, 64-megapixel camera smartphones are expected to release in the market later this year.

The Samsung Galaxy A70s is also speculated later this year. Since it will be arriving as an upgraded version of the Galaxy A70 smartphone that was unveiled in the recent past, the Galaxy A80s may arrive with similar internals and the only major difference could be the presence of a 64-megapixel snapper. Samsung is yet to launch the Galaxy A90 smartphone. The rumor mill is also speculating that it may arrive with the new ISOCELL GW1 camera sensor. However, the handset may not feature it since it may debut before or around the time when the mass production of the 64-megapixel ISOCELL GW1 sensor begins.

Galaxy A70 featured Xiaomi device with 64-megapixel camera is concerned, there is no clue on which Redmi phone could be featuring it. Most of the major Redmi smartphones have already launched in the first half of the year. Hence, it remains to be seen which Redmi smartphones will be releasing in the latter half of 2019.
