After the Trump administration banned Huawei, barring the Chinese company from acquiring components and technology from US firms without government approval, Microsoft removed the listing of Huawei laptops from its online store.

Surprisingly, the Huawei laptops are now back on the Microsoft online store. However, the software giant has not yet revealed if Huawei will still be able to obtain Windows licenses for its range of laptops.

In a statement related to resuming sales of Huawei laptops, Microsoft spokesperson said:

“We have been evaluating and will continue to respond to, the many businesses, technical and regulatory complexities stemming from the recent addition of Huawei to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export Administration Regulations Entity List. As a result, we are resuming the sale of existing inventory of Huawei devices at Microsoft Store.”

It’s noteworthy that the company has said that it is selling existing inventory and when the company was asked whether it plans to continue to stock and sell Huawei laptops, a spokesperson reiterated that “Microsoft Store is selling existing inventory, which is compliant with current U.S. regulations.”

Huawei was all set to launch a new Windows-powered laptop during the CES Asia show in Shanghai but the company canceled the launch, as confirmed by Huawei’s consumer division CEO Richard Yu. He said that the laptop would have been unveiled without a release date, but Huawei’s placement on the US Entity List has stopped the company from announcing the product altogether.
