Through an unveil event in China, Huawei has taken off the covers from the Huawei Nova 5 series. The Nova 5 is a flagship phone that comes with 7nm Kirin 980 chipset. The Nova 5i is a mid-range phone and a rebranded version of the P20 Lite (2019) smartphone that was unveiled in Europe recently. It comes with Kirin 710 SoC and punch-hole display. The Nova 5 borrows most of its specs from the Nova 5 Pro smartphone. What’s unique about it is the first phone ever to feature the new 7nm Kirin 810 chipset.

The Huawei Nova 5 comes with a 6.39-inch OLED display with waterdrop notch. It carries support for full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The Nova 5 Pro also features the same display. The Nova 5 and 5 Pro both blessed with optical in-screen fingerprint scanners. The other features related to the display of both smartphones include TUV certification, support for DCI-P3 and DC dimming.

The Kirin 980 flagship chipset found in the Huawei P30 series and Mate 20 series is present under the hood of the Nova 5 Pro whereas the 7nm Kirin 810 chipset powers the Nova 5 handset. The new SoC features two CPU cores of Cortex A76 clocking at 2.27 GHz and six CPU cores of Cortex A55 working at 1.8 GHz. It also includes a dedicated NPU unit.

The Huawei Nova 5 Pro has 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of native storage whereas the Nova 5 comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of built-in storage. They also carry support for microSD card slot. The Android 9 Pie OS overlaid the latest version of EMU 9 comes loaded on the Nova 5 and 5 Pro. For smoother gaming experience, Huawei has also included support for GPU Turbo technology on these devices.

The Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro smartphones are both fitted with f/2.0 aperture 32-megapixel front-facing cameras. With 4-in-1 pixel combining technology onboard, the Nova 5 and 5 Pro can capture bright selfies in darker conditions. The rear side of the both smartphones have four cameras such as 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 primary sensor with, a 16-megapixel superwide lens, a 2-megapixel sensor for adding depth effects and a 2-megapixel macro lens. The Nova 5 series support super night mode, portrait mode, AI scene recognition, AI beautification features. Both the phones are ideal for shooting Vlogs, claims the company.

The EMU 9 based Android 9 Pie OS comes preloaded on both smartphones. These handsets are equipped with 3,500mAh batteries. The Nova 5 Pro and Nova 5 smartphones support 40W fast charging that can charge these devices up to 85 percent capacity in just 30 minutes. Other features of the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro smartphones include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and USB-C.

Huawei Nova 5i Specifications and Features

As mentioned at the start of this post, the Huawei Nova 5i is a Chinese version of the P20 Lite (2019) that has released recently in Europe. Compared to P20 Lite (2019), the Nova 5i comes with modified rear camera system. The handset features a 6.4-inch LCD panel with a punch-hole at the top-left corner for the 24-megapixel selfie shooter.

The rear shell of the Nova 5i has a quad camera setup that includes a 24-megapixel primary sensor, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a ToF sensor. The P20 Lite (2019) has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera and includes another 16-megapixel sensor as the primary lens in its quad camera setup. A fingerprint scanner is also available on the rear side of the phone.

The Kirin 710 powers the Nova 5i with 6 GB of RAM. It comes with 128 GB of native storage and a microSD card slot. The Nova 5i runs on EMUI 9 based Android 9 Pie OS. The handset is packed with a 4,000mAh battery that supports only 5V/2A (10W) charging.
