When the iPhone X launched, it came with a feature that was so popular other manufacturers copied it and made their own version. That feature is Animoji. Samsung’s version is called AR Emoji and comes with additional features. Xiaomi also launched its own version called Mimoji which was exclusive to the Mi 8 but later ported to other devices. More than a year later, the feature is no longer popular but Xiaomi will be bringing it back with the upcoming CC9 smartphone.

It makes sense that Xiaomi is bringing the feature back and also doing so with the CC9, seeing as the phone is targeted at the younger generation. But Xiaomi isn’t just bringing it back; this is a new version with new features.

Unlike the original Mimoji app that was limited to a few characters including the famous Mi Bunny mascot, the new Mimoji will allow you to create an avatar of yourself. According to a Weibo post by Lao Wei, there are 165 different hairstyles, faces and accessories users can choose from when creating their avatar. There will also be preset avatars too.

Users will be able to take photos, record videos, and even add their Avatars to famous paintings.

The Xiaomi CC9, CC9e, and CC9 Meitu are scheduled to launch on July 2. The CC9 and CC9 Meitu Custom Edition will have triple rear cameras, AMOLED displays, and in-display fingerprint scanners. Both will have a 32MP selfie camera while the primary rear camera is a 48MP sensor.
