Earlier today, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 855 Plus processor. This is a more powerful version of the Snapdragon 855 with the same CPU cores and GPU but a higher clockspeed. Now, ASUS has revealed that its gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 2 will be the world’s first Snapdragon 855 Plus device.

The ASUS ROG Phone was one of the most powerful smartphones of 2018, if not the most powerful. While other Snapdragon 845 phones had their processor clocked at 2.8GHz, the ROG Phone’s Snapdragon 845 processor was clocked at 2.96GHz. So it is not a big surprise that its successor is also gunning to be one of the most powerful phones released this year.

So far we know the ROG Phone 2 will have a display with a 120Hz refresh rate and also have games made by Tencent optimized to take advantage of the feature. The rest of the specs are still under wraps but we expect it to pack a large battery, have stereo speakers, and run Android 9 Pie out of the box. The phone will first launch in China on July 23.
