ASUS ROG 2, the second-generation gaming smartphone from Taiwanese electronics giant ASUS officially went on sale for the first time at 0.00 hours on July 31. The ROG 2 was available in 8GB+128GB version clutching a 3499 yuan ($508) price tag as well as the 12GB+512GB version selling for 5999 yuan (~$870). ASUS ROG 2

The ROG 2 sales apparently didn’t last for long as all available units were reportedly sold out. The next round of sales took place also today at 10 AM and the fate was not any different. This isn’t much of a surprise, considering that the ASUS ROG 2 received over 2.33 million registrations on JD.com in China. ASUS ROG 2

The ROG 2 is the first device to launch with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855+ chipset. This happens to be the fastest SoC around and it is just enough to handle extreme gaming. The device features a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit HDR, Gorilla Glass 6 protection, 1ms response time, a 49ms touch latency, and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz.

It also packs stereo front-facing speakers with DTS:X 7.1 surround sound, an NXP 9874 Smart Amplifier, a 24MP front-facing camera, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. At the rear is a 48MP Sony IMX586 primary camera paired with a 13MP super wide-angle camera. It also has improved touch-sensitive triggers on the side with better haptic feedback, among other powerful hardware.
