After many teasers and leaks, the wait is finally over for the UMIDIGI X as today, the company officially launched the in-screen fingerprint sensor value king featuring a 48MP AI triple camera. Together with the new mid-range flagship, the Chinese manufacturer also announced the UMIDIGI Upods, the company’s truly wireless earbuds. Both will go on global sale exclusively at the UMIDIGI Official Store on Aliexpress on August 26th (7 am GMT). Despite the official announcement, the price of the phone will be revealed later with the company claiming that it will be the most affordable phone with an in-screen fingerprint sensor. So, we expect the price would be much lower than recently released Xiaomi Mi A3. Let’s check out some key specs of the new model.
Latest gen in-screen fingerprint sensor and AMOLED for everyone
In-screen fingerprint sensor for the masses! This feature is not a privilege of expensive flagships anymore. UMIDIGI brings this high-end feature to the budget segment as the X features the latest optical in-display fingerprint sensor by Goodix, the same company that supplies tech giants like Huawei and Xiaomi. Also, it’s impressive that UMIDIGI equips the phone with a 6.35″ AMOLED display panel that is usually reserved for flagships.
48MP AI triple camera with ultra-wide-angle lens
The 48MP sensors are the new… black in the smartphone industry and UMIDIGI couldn’t offer anything less than a 48MP AI triple rear camera setup (48MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 5MP depth). The 48MP main camera has a half-inch sensor with f/1.79 large aperture and 1.6μm (4in1) super-pixel that should perform well both in low-light and daylight conditions. The 8MP camera with the ultra-wide-angle lens on the other hand, is capable of capturing a wide view. Lastly, the 5MP depth sensor is required for accurate bokeh shots. All this hardware combined with AI algorithms allow for features like super night mode and AI scenes detection on the phone. The selfie shooter is 16MP and also uses AI to improve selfies.
Other goodies on UMIDIGI X
Besides the killer features of the fingerprint unlock and 48MP triple camera, the X comes with Helio P60 SoC backed by 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The battery is big, at 4150mAh and supports 18W fast charging. Despite the big battery and multi-function NFC, the phone manages to remain at only 8.1mm thickness. UMIDIGI X runs on pure stock Android 9 Pie and a planned update to Android Q is coming according to the company. Of course, just like other UMIDIGI phones, the phone supports dual-4G VoLTE as well as global LTE bands.
Truly wireless earbuds UMIDIGI Upods
Alongside UMIDIGI X, the Chinese manufacturer also unveiled its new truly wireless earbuds Upods. The Upods headset is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 and 7.2mm dynamic driver, delivering a stable connection and superior sound. Also, in the likes of Apple’s Airpods, it comes with a 600mAh charging box that helps the Upods to function 24 hours continuously. Each earbud weighs just 4g and their ergonomic design makes them comfortable to wear. They also support Google Assistant and Siri activation.

The UMIDIGI X global sale will kick off on August 26th. The price is yet to be known but a low price tag is expected since the company claims it’s the most affordable phone with an in-screen fingerprint sensor.
