According to the new report published by market analysis firm Canalys, South Korean giant Samsung has dominated the European smartphone market in the second quarter of this year. The company has captured a whopping 40.6 percent of the market share.

It also reported that Samsung has shipped 18.3 million smartphones in Europe in Q2 2019, higher compared to the shipment of 15.3 million units in Q2 2018. The growth in shipments, around 20 percent, is being attributed to the newly revamped Galaxy A-series of smartphones.

Europe Smartphone Market Q2 2019

Despite being in troubled water because of the US ban, China-based Huawei managed to retain its second position in the European smartphone market. It shipped 8.5 million units in Europe, which is down from 10.1 million units shipped in Q2 2018. In Q2 of this year, the company held 18.8 percent market share in Europe.

The third position in the European market was grabbed by Apple with 14.1 percent market share and shipments of 6.4 million units. Among those shipments, 1.8 million units were of Apple iPhone XR.

Xiaomi and HMD Global, the company behind the Nokia brand, have grabbed the fourth and fifth spot with 9.6 percent and 2.7 percent market share respectively. While Xiaomi shipped 4.3 million units in Q2 2019 registering 48 percent growth, HMD Global shipped 1.2 million units in the same period.

As for the best-selling smartphones in the Europen market for the period of April 2019 to June 2019, Samsung Galaxy A50 topped the list with shipments of 3.2 million units. It was followed by Samsung Galaxy A40, which managed to ship 2.2 million units. According to Canalys’ data, the Galaxy A10, A20e, A40 and A50 together shipped more than any other phone vendor’s entire portfolio in Europe in Q2 2019.

Europe Bestselling Smartphones Q2 2019

The third best-selling smartphone was Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 with 2 million units shipped while Galaxy A20e and Apple iPhone XR got the fourth and fifth place with the shipments of 1.9 million and 1.8 million units respectively.

Overall, the European smartphone market remained flat, registering the same 45 million smartphone shipments in Q2 2019, the same number of shipments as in Q2 2018.
