Oppo tried to make fun of the new potential best-seller Redmi Note 8 Pro by announcing the Realme XT a few hours before the Xiaomi’s mid-ranger and making it the world’s first 64 MP camera phone. The handset was officially confirmed right before the announcement of the Redmi Note 8 Pro and right after the announcement of another Oppo’s mid-range phone: the Reno2 Z. While the Redmi Note 8 Pro catalyzed more attention due to Xiaomi’s popularity all around the world, it will be very interesting to discover which of these devices will offer the best user experience and the highest value for money. Through this specs comparison, we want to help you to find the best device independently from its popularity. Note that there was not a dedicated event for the announcement of the Realme XT, so actually there are some bits missing in its specs sheet.

Design
Oppo Reno2 Z is the most premium device if we talk about aesthetics. Not only it offers a more original design, but also a higher screen-to-body ratio and smaller dimensions than Redmi Note 8 Pro (despite it has the same screen size), as well as a futuristic pop-up camera. Redmi Note 8 Pro and Realme XT both offer a classic waterdrop design with cheaper materials and less attention to details. Unlike its rivals, Redmi Note 8 Pro does not have an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Display
Redmi Note 8 Pro could not feature an under-display fingerprint reader because it sports a classic IPS display, while both Oppo Reno2 Z and Realme XT feature a better AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint reader. On the display side, I personally prefer the Reno2 Z because it has a wider panel, narrower bezels around the display and it is notch-less. The display quality should not differ so much, so do not focus a lot on it.
Specs & Software
The presence of the Helio G90T SoC by MediaTek makes the Redmi Note 8 Pro the most performing phone of the trio. The Helio G90T is meant specifically for gamers, so it has very high graphics performance, it is backed by a liquid cooling system and it even offers better CPU performance. The only disadvantage is energy consumption, as it was built with a less efficient production process (12 nm). But you should not worry so much since the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a bigger battery. Just note that the most advanced memory configuration of the Reno2 Z by Oppo has more internal storage (256 GB), while its opponents stop at 128 GB.
Camera
In each case, you get an amazing quad-camera setup, even though not flagship-class cameras. Despite Redmi Note 8 Pro and Realme XT feature 64 MP sensors and Reno 2 Z comes with a 48 MP main sensor, Reno2 Z sports optical stabilization and a brighter focal aperture, so its photo and video quality should be a lot better. The Reno2 Z is even the only to feature a selfie camera equipped with a front-facing LED flash.
Battery
Redmi Note 8 Pro has a bigger battery, but it also has a less efficient display and chipset. That is why Realme XT with its 10 nm chipset should be able to last more on a single charge with most of the usage patterns.
Price
We still do not know how much Realme XT will cost (most likely under €200/$220), but Reno2 Z debuted with a €380/$420 starting price while Redmi Note 8 Pro starts from just €180/$200. If we exclude the chipset, Oppo Reno2 Z is an overall better device, but given its performance and price, Redmi Note 8 Pro has a higher value for money. The only thing left is to wait for the listing price of Realme XT to make a definitive value for money comparison between the latest device from Oppo’s sub-brand and the Redmi Note 8 Pro.
