In order to be one of the best gaming phones out there, a gaming-centric device must offer amazing performances and, in order to achieve such a result, it needs a flagship-class hardware department. That is what the main gaming smartphones manufacturers opted for, including Nubia, before launching the Red Magic 3. But in the second half of 2019, Qualcomm decided to release a new chipset: the Snapdragon 855+, which is an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 855 and offers even better performance in both gaming and daily use.

Even though Nubia already released a gaming phone this year, it decided to adapt to the market in order to keep offering a gaming phone with the most powerful hardware department you can expect in 2019. That is why Nubia Red Magic 3S, that is the upgraded version of the Red Magic 3, is coming soon. A few hours before the launch, below you can find a rumor roundup with all the details we know about the upcoming Red Magic 3S which will officially debut on September 5.

A better chipset: Snapdragon 855+

The existence of the new Snapdragon 855+ SoC is undoubtedly the main reason because of Nubia decided to release a new gaming phone this year. So, the Red Magic 3S will be equipped with the best Qualcomm’s mobile platform. Compared to the Snapdragon 855, the new Snapdragon 855+ offers 15 percent more graphics performance and a higher clock frequency (2.96 GHz vs 2.84 GHz).

According to leaked benchmarks, the Snapdragon 855+ on the Nubia Red Magic 3S will be paired with 12 GB of RAM, UFS 3.0 internal storage and F2FS file system support, that is the best memory configuration you can expect in 2019 in terms of performance. And it is not a case that Nubia Red Magic 3S scored 510,496 on AnTuTu benchmark: one of the highest scores ever reached by a mobile phone. The phone was spotted on AnTuTu with the model number NX629J which leaves no doubts about its identity.

High refresh ratio and 4D vibration

High refresh ratio became a trend not only for gamers but also for casual users as it offers a smoother user experience. A high refresh ratio is an even more important advantage for gamers as it makes the gameplay more reactive. That is why Nubia Red Magic 3S will feature a display with a 90 Hz refresh ratio. It is not the highest refresh ratio available on a phone, but that is still amazing for games. Further, the phone will boast 4D vibration feedback for a more immersive gaming experience. Thanks to 4D vibration, holding the phone will be even more similar to holding a gaming controller.

A new sound experience

Nubia Red Magic 3S 3D Surround Sound

Ahead of the launch, Nubia released a few teasers revealing some key specifications of the Red Magic 3S. Among these teasers, there is one confirming that the gaming phone will support 3D surround sound. Alongside the 4D vibration feedback, such technology will enhance the gaming experience even more by offering tridimensional audio. We obviously expect stereo speakers on board of the Nubia Red Magic 3S in order to take advantage of this feature in the best way.

The other specifications

Given that it will be an upgrade, we expect the Nubia Red Magic 3S to retain the rest of the specs of its predecessor. The vanilla Red Magic 3 boasts a wide 6.65-inch display and it has a gaming-centric design with an RGB LED strip on the rear side. It is the only gaming phone to feature an air cooling system with a real fan running at 14,000 rpm. It is also supported by a liquid-cooled copper tube to dissipate the heat even more.

The handset comes with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. It is also the gaming phone with the biggest battery out there: 5000 mAh with the support to 18W fast charging (Quick Charge 4+ by Qualcomm). It has DTS audio, stereo speakers a 48 MP main camera with an f/1.7 aperture and a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. The front camera has a 16 MP resolution and an f/2.0 aperture, while the operating system installed is Android 9 Pie customized by Red Magic 2.0 UI.

Nubia Red Magic 3S Launch Date

Through an official poster, Nubia officially confirmed that Red Magic 3S will be announced on September 5 in China. The poster also suggests that the phone will have an air cooling system, and that is perfectly in line with its predecessor. Given that it will not carry a very high price tag, the Nubia Red Magic 3S will be the perfect rival of the recent Black Shark 2 Pro.

In case you never heard of it, it is Xiaomi’s upgrade of the Black Shark 2 and it is equipped with a Snapdragon 855+ SoC just like the upcoming Red Magic 3S. It recently hitten the shelves with a starting price tag of about €450, so we expect a similar price tag even for the upcoming Nubia’s flagship.
