Apple announced three new iPhones today at an event in Cupertino. The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max succeed the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max respectively and come with extra cameras and a more powerful processor.

iPhone 11

The iPhone 11 is the cheapest of the lot and like the iPhone XR, this may as well be the best-selling of the three. The big changes the iPhone 11 brings include an extra camera, a brand new Apple A13 Bionic chipset which also powers its siblings, and new attractive colors.

Apple’s new offering has a 6.1-inch LCD TrueTone Liquid Retina display. The Apple A13 Bionic boasts a powerful CPU as well as a powerful GPU. There are three storage variants available – 64GB (rolls eyes), 128GB, and 256GB.

On the back of the iPhone 11 are now two cameras – a 12MP f/1.8 wide-angle camera with OIS and a 12MP f/2.4 ultrawide camera with a 120° field of view. There is 2x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. The ultrawide angle camera now allows you to fit more into your viewfinder. The redesigned camera app even shows you the view from the wide-angle camera lens before you switch to it. Apple says there is an automatic Night Mode now, semantic rendering, and Smart HDR.

The selfie camera has also been upgraded to a 12MP sensor which will automatically switch to a wider angle when you attempt to take a selfie in landscape mode. It also supports 4K 60fps video recording and also slow-motion video recording.

Apple, as usual, isn’t releasing some key details but it says the new iPhone 11 lasts 1 hour longer than the iPhone XR. There is also haptic touch, an IP68 rating (maximum depth of 2 meters up to 30 minutes), and FaceID.

The iPhone 11 starts at $699 for the base model, goes up to $749 for the 128GB version and caps at $849 for the 256GB version. It is available in white, black, Product RED, as well as green and yellow and comes with a pair of earpods with a lightning connector, a lightning to USB cable, and a 5W USB power adapter. Apple also announced that with all device purchase, owners get a 1-year free subscription for Apple TV+.

iPhone 11 Pro

iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max

The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are the more specced versions in the new series.

The iPhone 11 Pro is actually the smallest of the three new phones but its 5.8-inch display is a Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 2436 x 1125 resolution. The Max takes up the screen size to 6.5-inches and a 2688 x 1242 resolution. There is no 3D touch anymore. It has been replaced with haptic touch.

Both Pro models are powered by the A13 Bionic and are paired with 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB of storage. We will have to wait for a TENAA listing or a benchmark result to know the RAM in them.

The iPhone 11 Pro (and iPhone 11 Pro Max) has triple rear cameras – a 12MP f/2.4 ultrawide 120° camera, a 12MP f/1.8 camera, and a 12MP f/2.0 telephoto camera. Both the wide-angle and telephoto cameras have OIS and there is 2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out, and 10x digital zoom. The cameras bring several new features some of which we already mentioned above for the iPhone 11.

iPhone 11 Pro cameras

With the Pro, users will be able to choose between wide and telephoto for portrait photos. Holding down the shutter button also allows you to record a video when in photo mode similar to WhatsApp. There is also a feature called Deep Fusion which will be available via an update later this fall. Deep Fusion will take three photos using each of the cameras and merge them into one high-quality photo.

Apple also announced an app called Filmic Pro which will allow you to record from multiple cameras at the same time including the front camera to be edited together later for different angles.

The iPhone 11 Pro will have four more hours of battery life than the iPhone XS while the iPhone 11 Pro Max will have five more hours of battery life compared to the iPhone XS Max. Both will also ship with an 18W charger.

The iPhone 11 Pro is priced at $999 for the 64GB version, $1149 for the 256GB version, and $1349 for the 512GB version. The iPhone 11 Pro Max is priced at $1099 for the 64GB model, $1249 for the 256GB version, and $1449 for the 512GB version. Both phones will come in Space Gray, Silver, Midnight Green, and Gold.
