After unveiling the NEX 3 and NEX 3 5G smartphones a week ago, Vivo has applied for a trademark on a number of NEX monikers at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The NEX 3 is currently available only in China, but the trademark application hints at a global launch. While three monikers belong to the NEX series, the remaining names might be assigned to a different lineup.

Vivo NEX Pro, NEX Lite and NEX Neo

The new NEX monikers include the NEX Pro, NEX Lite and the NEX Neo. Vivo applied for the names on Sept.19. There is no word on what the company plans to do with these names at the moment. It might be part of Vivo’s attempt to safeguard the NEX moniker from copyright infringements in the future. There is no mention of the word ‘NEX 3’, so we cannot confirm whether the names are brand-specific. Vivo had previously trademarked the terms NEX V, NEX Z, NEX Y, NEX X and NEX Play.

Vivo iQOO Lite and VivoX Lineup

The remaining trademarked monikers this time are VivoX Pro, VivoX Lite and iQOO Lite.. In June, Vivo had announced the Snapdragon 845 powered iQOO Neo phone as a lighter version of the Vivo iQOO smartphone. Probably, the company may launch the Youth Edition globally as the iQOO Lite. This is a strange turn of events as Vivo currently limits the iQOO brand to China only.

All six trademarks are currently ‘under examination’ and it will be interesting to see what Vivo has in store for its global audience. As for the VivoX Lite and the VivoX Pro, the company does not sell any devices under the VivoX brand. This might be an entirely new lineup, or Vivo might sell smartphones from their present lineup in a brand new package globally under the VivoX moniker.
