The Mi MIX Alpha is still hot in the news thanks to its unique design and also 108MP primary camera, but Xiaomi is already back in the news for what may be its next flagship.

A new discovery made by XDA-Developers reveals that Xiaomi’s next flagship may support 8K video recording. That isn’t exactly special since there are a few phones already that can do that such as the Nubia Z20 and the Red Magic 3s. However, unlike the aforementioned phones, this unknown Xiaomi phone will record at 30fps and not 15fps.

The discovery was made in the teardown of the MIUI Camera app in the recently released MIUI 11 beta update for China. A string in the APK teardown shows that the phone will be able to record 8K (4320) at 30fps. The teardown also includes an image of 8K 30FPS which will most likely be an icon in the app when you switch to the recording mode.

It is speculated that 8K video recording should be an easy feat for the next Qualcomm flagship processor – the SNapdragon 865. With the upgraded ISP, 4320@30fps should be achievable.

The name of the device is unknown and we won’t be surprised if the feature also makes its way to Redmi’s next flagship phone too which should be the Redmi K30 Pro.
