The rate at which OEMs churn out new smartphones could be traced to the fact that the smartphone makers depend on sales not just from new buyers but from current owners who upgrade to the latest model. Each new model comes with a unique feature which some might find interesting but unfortunately, within the next couple of months, a better model is usually launched.hUAWEI

Apple and Samsung have the most loyal fanbase globally who retain the brands’ models in succession. However, a new report showing the top 10 Android phone brands with the highest retention rate in China has emerged. Of course, the list is devoid of the likes of Apple and Samsung which are struggling in the world’s second-largest market presently. Instead, Huawei‘s Mate series emerged as the phone model with the highest retention rate of 55.01%. The Mate series has seen tremendous improvement in design and hardware over the years. The flagship model sells massively even outside China.

The Mate series is followed by Xiaomi‘s Mi Max series with a retention rate of 47.49%. The Huawei P series comes in at the third position with a retention rate of 47.06%. Also in the top ten is the Xiaomi Mi Note Series, Xiaomi Digital Series, Huawei Maimang Series, Xiaomi MIX Series, Redmi Note Series, Vivo Y Series and Vivo X Series. Interestingly, Xiaomi is yet to update the Mi Note and Max series for a while now and may not do so this year.

The list is dominated by just three brands and it is no surprise that the three brands are currently among the top 5 Chinese phone makers in terms of shipment volume.
