Huawei is one of the few manufacturers still active in the tablet business. This year, it launched the MediaPad M6 series which has three models including a Turbo version of the 8.4-inch model. An IDC report has revealed that the Chinese tech giant now has the largest share of the Chinese tablet market.

IDC’s quarterly report for Q3 2019 shows Huawei shipped a total of 2.12 million units last quarter, a growth of 24.4% compared to the previous year. Based on this, Huawei’s share of the market rose to 37.4%, pushing it to the top of the list for the very first time.

IDC does state that the Chinese tablet market has actually been growing for the past 6 quarters albeit at a narrow pace of just 1.4%. A total of 5.67 million tablets were shipped in Q3 2019.

Apple has the second-largest market share with 33.8% and it shipped 1.92 million units last quarter. Xiaomi shipped 340,000 units and has a market share of 5.9% while Lenovo comes in fourth with a market share of 4% and a total of 230,000 units shipped. Both Xiaomi and Lenovo recorded a decline in growth of 47.4% and 15.9 respectively compared to the same quarter last year.

Xiaomi didn’t announce new models for the Mi Pad series which explains why its market share dropped significantly. It has been reported that Huawei, Apple, and Microsoft (which has the 5th largest share in China) have recorded success in the tablet market thanks to their continuous innovation and investments in research and development.
