MediaTek has today announced a major partnership with Intel. The partnership will see both companies work together to bring 5G support on Intel-powered laptops. MediaTek’s 5G modem is under development and the chipmaker is working with partners to manufacture the solution.

Intel is a leading brand in computing and this partnership is a pointer to MediaTek’s expertise in designing 5G technology for global markets. The capabilities 5G-powered PCs have to offer are limitless. Consumers will be able to browse, stream and play online game faster on their PCs. MediaTek’s President Joe Chen also expects the partnership to see both firms innovate with 5G in ways that have not yet been imagined.

PC manufacturing giants Dell and HP are the first OEMs’ that will release products under this new partnership. We can expect to see MediaTek’s 5G solution make it onto Windows laptops in early 2021.

MediaTek is expected to officially announce the 5G chipset as well as that for smartphones on November 26. But some details include that the Intel-powered laptops will be integrated with MediaTek’s Helio M70 5G modem. The 5G modem was announced back in May.
