In a major step forward for the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ programme, Chinese smartphone company OnePlus has now started to export Made in India 5G smartphones on a pilot basis from India.

He has added that the company is dedicatedly working towards turning India into a global export hub for its offerings, having already commenced export of 5G devices to markets like North America. He said: “As part of the business focus in India for the coming years, OnePlus is building India as a global export hub for the brand and is already manufacturing 5G devices and exporting to overseas markets, such as North America.”

OnePlus and another Chinese smartphone brand Oppo have co-invested to setup a manufacturing facility in the State of Uttar Pradesh’s Noida to produce 5G smartphones. It’s noteworthy that both OnePlus and Oppo are owned by the same parent company — BBK Electronics.

The company’s 5G ambitions are not limited to India as OnePlus is also testing 5G capabilities for carriers in the US and Europe countries at its research and development centre in Hyderabad.

The company forayed in the Indian market in 2014 and since then the company has grown rapidly. The company’s smartphones have been attracting major customer attention and has managed to grab the leading spot in India’s premium smartphone segment, defeating Samsung and Apple.

The company recently launched its latest smartphone models — OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro. It also launched the OnePlus TV in the Indian market, making it the world’s first market to have the company’s smart TV. The company is also set to launch its own payment service named OnePlus Pay soon.

Last month, the company said that it is planning to aggressively expand its presence offline, and develop new categories of IoT products made for India. This year, the company is ahead of its sales target for smartphones (35 percent market share) compared to last year’s 33 percent market share.
