According to a new report, the demand for Lens is expected to rise for many Chinese smartphone manufacturers. This surge in demand is speculated due to many brands such as Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and more seeing high units being shipped in the year 2020.

Huawei, the Chinese tech giant, is reportedly stated to ship approximately 200 million units in 2020 alone. On the other hand, the various other brands like Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi are expected to ship 100 million units at the very least respectively. This new rise in demand is being accredited to more and more smartphone OEMs adopting triple camera setup or even quad-camera modules.

Due to this, a single popular Chinese brand is reported to order anywhere between 400 to 500 million optical lenses in 2020. Furthermore, the smartphone lens module specs are becoming increasingly more complicated and require more sophisticated hardware and software integration. This also makes it harder for OEMs to find appropriate suppliers.

Owing to their capabilities, companies like Largan Precision, Sunny Optical Technology, Ofilm Tech, Q Technology and Truly Opto-Electronics to name a few will be sharing most of these lens orders by Chinese smartphone vendors in 2020. These names include Chinese and Taiwanese based companies as well, that are set to expand their production capacities to meet the upcoming surge in demand.

Additionally, popular brands like Huawei, Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, and Apple were the top five smartphone manufacturers in terms of the Chinese smartphone market share in the third quarter of 2019. These companies combined shared 95 percent of all total shipments. Hence, looking at the massive numbers of unit shipments the rise of lens demand is to be expected.
