Xiaomi has begun rolling out a stable MIUI 11 update to its 2018 flagship, the Mi 8, in China. The update not only brings a new user interface and new features to the phone but also brings Android 10.

The update arrives as MIUI V11.0.5.0.QEACNXM and is 2.1GB in size. Xiaomi advises that users back up their data before they install the update since it not only comes with a new version of MIUI but also upgrades the Android version. Users are also warned that certain apps may be incompatible with Android 10 and may not function properly. However, it is advised that you update your apps afterward as the latest version of the app may have fixed the incompatibility issue.

MIUI 11 brings a redesigned user interface, always-on-display with new customization and personalization options, breathing lights for notifications using the display, new notification sounds inspired by nature, and Mi Work and Mi Life to helo you improve productivity and balance work and personal life. There is also Mi Share for file sharing between compatible devices.

MIUI 11 also has a built-in document viewer called Mi Doc Viewer so you don’t have to download a document viewing app for your device. There is also wireless printing with support for more than 2000 printer models from HP, Lexmark, HP, Sharp, Epson, Toshiba, Kyocera, Lenovo, Mijia and NEC e.t.c. Xiaomi has also included a period tracker, an emergency SOS feature, and a step counter.

There is no news yet with respect to when the stable update will be available for the global version but it should not be far off. The phone launched with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and was updated to Android 9 Pie. It should still be eligible for future MIUI updates but this may be its last Android OS upgrade.
