Less than 20 percent of employees are likely to resume work in China after their extended Lunar New Year holiday, according to a report from Digitimes. According to sources with direct knowledge of the matter, several component plants in the country are determined to halt production until February 25th.

The decision to not resume production at the moment is quite understandable, as there are still no signs of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) epidemic paring down. Aside from that, very few Taiwanese IT firm employees are likely to rejoin work amid the outbreak.

Foxconn’s manufacturing for Apple is expected to be affected as well. Meanwhile, MediaTek is expecting its worldwide 5G phone sales to drop drastically due to the epidemic.
