In recent times, technological advancements have been significant in many areas, especially in information and data infrastructures. It is now viable to stream 4K videos and movies at home all in part due to faster data rates and download speeds. Now, the record for the fastest download speeds has been broken after Ericsson said its latest 5G hardware is capable of 4.3Gbps.

According to Ericsson, its latest network infrastructure for 5G has enabled a full hour long 4K video to be transferred in just 14 seconds, which is great news considering this will be available to the general consumers. The company’s engineers in Stockholm have apparently hit a download speed of a whopping 4.3Gbps. This breaks the previously held record which was set by Huawei in October 2019 with a download speed of 3.67Gbps.

Notably, the record breaking download speed is closest anyone has ever gotten to reach 5G networks theoretical 7.5Gbps of peak download speeds capabilities from existing 5G chips. Although an impressive and sizable jump over Huawei, one must know that it is known not a simple and direct comparison of quality between the two. This is due to Ericsson utilizing an 8 millimeter wave frequency ban or 8CC (8 component carrier) with a total of 800Mhz of spectrum.

However, credit where it is due, Ericsson’s 4.3Gbps download speed is still an extremely impressive feat that has been achieved. It also emphasizes on the potential growth of the network in the near future, even replacing fiber. The faster and newer bandwidth also carries implications ahead of just simple video streaming, and even improve other fields like video gaming and augmented and artificial reality as well.
