One of Xiaomi‘s ecological chain companies IMILAB has gone global with the release of its latest surveillance camera for the global market on IndieGoGo. The Imilab EC2 was first launched as the MIJIA Xiaobai Smart Camera Battery edition in October last year. The IndieGoGo campaign has been a tremendously successful one with $414,300 USD raised so far by 1,802 backers.
The Imilab EC2 camera keeps up with the minimalist design language Xiaomi is known for and is equally affordable. It is on offer for $99 but when it launched in China, it was offered for just 399 yuan ($56). We’ll factor custom duties and shipping cost into that, as it ships worldwide free of charge.
The Smart Camera is entirely a wireless camera and can be installed indoors and outdoors. The wireless design brings ease to installation as it doesn’t require any form of wiring. One of the stand-out features onboard is the huge 5100mAh battery which it packs. The battery can last up to 100 days on a single charge.

The camera also comes with motion detection which is triggered when a human body is detected. In that case, the camera starts recording, and the video is then uploaded to the cloud storage. The manufacturer offers free lifetime Mi Cloud storage. The owner can view the real-time video on his mobile phone and where there is an intruder, can even speak to the intruder as a way of scaring him away.
The IMILAB EC2 is integrated with PIR and a cutting edge AI (artificial intelligence) technology which allows it to differentiate between human, large pets or other large warm moving objects. If an animal is detected, the system will not send alarm notifications to reduce false alarm. However, where a human is detected, the owner will receive an app notification quickly which can be checked in real-time. The camera also runs in a low power mode when no movement is detected. This ensures the battery lasts for a long time. 
The cool gadget packs an IP66 dustproof and waterproof build as well as infrared night vision lights. Further, the camera is equipped with an F2.6 aperture which can record 1080p video. The security camera is bundled with a wireless gateway that is powered by 5V/2A adapter and has a port for wired ethernet connection as well as microSD slot that can take 64GB SD card. The camera is compatible with the MIJIA app.
