Soon after Huawei was put on the “Entity List” by the United States, effectively banning the company from doing business with the US-based companies, Google stopped support for the Chinese company, prohibiting it from using Android on Huawei’s smartphones.

Now, Google has published a new article in which the company clarifies that it has been prohibited from working with Huawei on new device models or providing Google’s applications, including Gmail, Maps, YouTube, the Play Store and others for preload or download on these devices.

It also added that the company has continued to work with Huawei in compliance with government regulations to provide security updates and updates to Google’s apps and services on existing devices and says that it will continue to do so.

For those who are unaware, Google is only allowed to work with Huawei on device models available to the public on or before May 16, 2019. The company has also warned users not to sideload its applications on new Huawei phones.

It the blog post, it writes that “sideloaded Google apps will not work reliably because we do not allow these services to run on uncertified devices where security may be compromised. Sideloading Google’s apps also carries a high risk of installing an app that has been altered or tampered with in ways that can compromise user security.”

Meanwhile, Huawei has launched Huawei Mobile Services aka HMS which is being seen as an alternative to GMS in order to reduce its reliance on Google. The company is also planning to invest billions of dollars to boost its app ecosystem.
