Vivo has just launched the latest iteration of its Apex concept smartphone series, the Apex 2020. It arrives with top notch specs and some very unique and one of its kind features. So here’s a couple of hands on images of the newly unveiled device.

Waterfall Display and a Unique Aesthetic

Right off the bat, the most prominent feature one will notice on the Vivo Apex 2020 is its display. The entirety of the front is mostly covered by its display, which the company has dubbed as the “FullView Edgeless Display.” It is an extension of its Waterfall display which was also seen in the Nex 3, a commercial version of the Apex 2019. However, what differs from the latter is that the degree of curve, which is an impressive 120 degrees over the 88 degrees found in the previous iteration.

This alongside the under display selfie camera on the front allows Vivo to offer a completely immersive viewing experience. The notch on the top and the chin on the bottom are barely noticeable while the sides are wrapped by the display. It also means that the company has achieved a very high screen to body ratio. For dimensions, the Apex 2020 is 157.25 × 66.2 × 8.8mm and weighs 169 grams in total.

The Gimbal Stabilized Camera and Colors

Another great innovation found in the Vivo Apex 2020 is its primary camera module on the rear. Being inspired by a chameleon’s eyes, the company built a camera system that offers a complete optical zoom of 5x to 7.5x thanks to its moving lenses. This, in turn, has the rear camera module being housed in a circular format. Notably, the company has made the device in both Black and White colors.

Here is where things get interesting, the white variant clearly highlights the camera module on the rear. Thus, the Apex 2020 resembles an advanced and 2020 version of the Nokia Lumia 1020. The latter was known to feature a whopping 41 megapixel camera, something that was not seen until years after. Nokia’s Lumia 1020 represented innovation and possible growth in smartphone photography, and the Apex 2020 is another perfect example of the same.

Apart from this, a recurring aspect of the Vivo Apex series also makes a return here. The Apex 2020 has no seams, ports or buttons. Meaning, the smartphone is almost completely made out of a single cut, giving it a very minimalistic design as well. No ports include no charging port either, and this where the company pulled out its trump card of 60W wireless fast charging.
