Just recently, a rocket launch service was sold in China for $6 million. Chinese people are known to buy products through live streaming, but this takes it to a whole new level. The service was sold earlier this week on the popular streaming platform Taobao for 40 million Yuan.
The rocket service arrives from ExPace, which is a subsidiary of the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation. This service being offered was to place ads on the Kuaizhou-1A rocket and was purchased by Chang Guang Satellite Technology. The transaction was made on Taobao with Wei Ya (a popular host who is touted to be the sales queen in China) hosting the stream.

Notably, Wei Ya has more than 18 million followers on Taobao and the stream attracted over 19 million concurrent viewers, which is another feat that the streaming industry has achieved. The rocket in question is “a small launch vehicle” in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, and has already seen 8 successful commercial launches so far. The ads being sold allowed buyers to paint the body of the rocket and the launch platform as well. They could even visit the launch site and control the launch.
On Weibo, the Chinese microblogging website, the #WeiYaSellsARocket had over 620,000 tags, with more than two million online viewers tuning in to watch the impressive sale. Local media has also looked at the event to re-promote Wuhan after the devastating impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic.
