Recent reports had claimed that theLG will be killing its G-series of smartphones to make way for a new branding. Some reports had claimed that the LG Chocolate branding from the past will be brought back. Today, the South Korean company released an official confirmation to reveal that its upcoming mid-range smartphone will carry LG Velvet branding.

The company did not reveal any details on the specifications of the LG Velvet smartphone. The company has revealed the design language of the LG Velvet. It appears that the South Korean company will be emphasizing design over specs on the newly introduced mid-range lineup. The handset will be replacing the LG G9 ThinQ that was expected to debut in the first half of the year.

LG states that today’s smartphones are almost difficult to distinguish since they are packed with similar specifications. With distinctive designs and “tactile” elegance, the Velvet aims to stand cut above the rest. The company claims that the first LG Velvet phone will be sporting a unique “Raindrop” camera and a symmetrical appearance.

The handset could be packed with the same specs that were supposed to arrive on the LG G9 ThinQ smartphone. The handset could be fueled by the Snapdragon 765v or 765G chipset that will bring support for 5G connectivity on the device. The device could be housing a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging capabilities.

The smartphone could be sporting a 6.7-inch – 6.9-inch display and it could be sporting a 48-megapixel quad camera setup on its back. The device may arrive with support for dual screen accessory. Some reports have claimed that LG may announce it on May 15. It may carry a price tag of around ~$700. With over a month remaining for the rumored launch, more details on the LG Velvet is likely to surface in the coming weeks.
