Google Camera Go debuted on Nokia 1.3 Android Go smartphone announced in March 2020. As of now, it is the only phone to come with this app and above all, the device is yet to go on sale. Despite this, GCam modders have managed to find out that the internet search giant is testing HDR feature for this toned-downed Google camera app for entry-level smartphones.

The folks at XDA retrieved the Google Camera Go APK from the firmware of Nokia 1.3. Unfortunately, they are yet to share the APK to the public, however, Google Camera (GCam) modders have got their hands on it to dig deeper for (maybe) possible ports.

While doing so, they discovered Google to be working on HDR mode, which is currently missing on the app. As of now, it is not working even after turning on the toggle. Maybe, it will debut as a first major update for the app.

HDR photography on Android Go phones, usually priced around $100 can improve the overall quality of the pictures shot on them. This is a dream come true for people buying phones at budget prices as these handsets don’t support regular GCam mods yet.

Hopefully, modders port the Google Camera Go app for other devices just like they do with regular Google Camera app from Pixels. If that happens, people buying low-priced phones will not have to worry about potato quality pictures anymore.

Anyway, Google Camera Go mods are only applicable for enthusiasts, who mostly don’t come under the category of buying low-priced entry-level smartphones. Nevertheless, the regular app on the Android Go device with HDR capability can still make a difference.
