What is one common feature between Samsung, Huawei, and Apple? All three manufacturers make their own mobile processors. There are others too but not at the scale of the aforementioned companies. A new leak has revealed that Vivo is about to join the club.

A Weibo post by Digital Chat Station has revealed that Vivo is working on its own chipset(s) too. The leaker posted two images that reveal Vivo applied for trademarks for “Vivo Chip” and “Vivo SoC” as far back as September 2019.

There are no specific details with respect to Vivo’s plans for its chipset business and it is hard to say when the first one will be announced. However, we are not too surprised that Vivo is entering into chip development.

Following Huawei’s US predicament, Chinese manufacturers have been investing more in developing local technology so that they can reduce reliance on foreign technology.

Vivo’s phones are currently powered by processors from Qualcomm, MediaTek, and even Samsung. This will likely continue to be the norm for years but with the likely addition of its own chipset. There is also a possibility that its chipsets may not be designed for use in mobile phones but for other smart devices it plans to release.
