Huawei has been lately focussing more in the smart automotive industry. According to a press release by the company, it has partnered with 18 carmakers in China to release 5G smart-connected vehicles in the coming months.
Huawei has been working long to become the leading supplier of 5G modules to smart-connected vehicles. The company claims its MH5000 as the world’s first 5G module for vehicles.
This module was developed by Huawei’s HiSilicon division, which is well-know for its Kirin lineup of smartphone SoCs. It is already available commercially on Baojun RC-6, a car built by SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, a joint venture between SAIC, General Motors and Liuzhou Wuling Automobile Industry Co.
Now, the Chinese telecom giant signs a total of 18 Chinese carmakers to bring more 5G smart-connected vehicles to the domestic market. Here’s the complete list of the partners.

Recently, it was revealed Huawei to have partnered with STMicroelectronics to design and manufacture chips for smart automotive and mobile devices. If the cooperation goes as planned, Huawei may rope in international carmakers like Tesla and BMW as its clients who are customers of STMicro for years.
