Huawei invests hugely in R&D and that is responsible to a large extent for the company’s consistent rise in the global market. The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) released data for 2019 in April this year showing that Huawei filed a total of 4,411 patents in 2019. This made the company rank as the top corporate filer globally. Huawei store logo official featured 03

The Chinese tech giant’s patent portfolio spread even into 5G. IPlytics, a German patent data company has now announced that Huawei filed a total of 3,147 5G standard-essential patents (SEPs) of which over 2000 has been granted. Thus, Huawei ranked first in the number of SEPs filings among 5G companies worldwide. The 5G Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) filed by the Chinese technology giant accounted for 15.05 percent of the global total, making it a leader in the 5G communication field.huawei 5G patent

Huawei is followed by Qualcomm, Nokia, Samsung, LG, ZTE, Ericsson, CATT, NTT DOCOMO and Intel in the number of 5Gpatent filing. The released data also show that Chinese firms Huawei and ZTE both control a total of 34.02 percent of the global total of 5G SEPs filings.

However, we must note that most of Huawei’s patents have not been approved. Finnish company Nokia and South Korean enterprise Samsung have the largest share of its patents already granted. This is also an indication that both firms haven’t filed many recently as the process of approving a patent takes a long time, some times several years.
