New TVs may cost a bit more beginning next quarter as a report says LCD panels are about to get more expensive.

Business Korea reports that the price of 32-inch LCD open cell panels rose 6% this month and the trend is expected to continue and even cross 10% by the third quarter. The reason given is an increase in the production of more TVs in the second half of the year as the COVID-19 pandemic eases in some countries.

TV manufacturers have been reported to have increased their inventory for panels for the second half of the year following disappointing sales in the first half. OLED TV and POLED panel production are also said to be back to normal levels.

The increase in the price of panels may translate to an increase in the price of TVs including those from phone manufacturers that are also into TV production such as Xiaomi, Motorola, and Realme.
