Notably, Zheng had founded Huixin Communication, a joint venture between the local government and scientific groups. Xiaomi had invested in this joint venture which focused on developing cutting edge technology and improve the 5G infrastructure as well. Furthermore, Xiaomi has been actively recruiting various high ranking officials from different companies since last year.

Thus, the move of hiring a former ZTE mobile division CEO could be a part of the same plan. For those unaware, Xiaomi has recruited individuals like Lu Weibing, Gionee President, Chang Cheng, the Lenovo Mobile Phone business founder, and others. According to a Xiaomi official, “Only by continuously introducing external talents can our team be full of vitality.”
