When it comes to updates, Samsung isn’t at the top of the list. However, it has improved in the past year. Now, it plans to do better as it announced at today’s Galaxy Unpacked event that it will provide 3 years of Android OS updates or in its own words “OS updates up to 3 generations”.

This puts Samsung in the same category as Google, HMD Global, and OnePlus who provide three OS upgrades for their phones. This means Samsung’s new devices, that is, the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Note20 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 should get Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13. Samsung isn’t stopping there though.

Samsung 3-years OS updates

All flagships announced starting with the Galaxy S10 series are also eligible for three OS updates. So the Galaxy S10 series should get Android 11 and Android 12 updates. Don’t expect to get them in time though.

Samsung has not said anything yet about tablets but we expect its flagship tablets such as the Galaxy Tab S6 should also get the sea treatment.

With Samsung upping its update game, we expect other manufacturers that are poor at rolling out updates will step up their game as software support is also a criterion for folks when picking up new devices.
