Earlier this year, India’s government banned 59 Chinese applications which include some of the most popular apps such as TikTok, ShareIt, UC Browser, WeChat, CamScanner, and more. The government also subsequently banned 47 more apps, which mostly include the ‘Lite’ versions or clones of the apps banned earlierMi browser

Xiaomi’s Mi Browser Pro has now joined the list of banned apps in India as the government widens its offensive against Chinese firms operating in India. The move could affect several millions of persons who use Xiaomi’s smartphones. The most recent data shows that Xiaomi has sold more than 100 million smartphones in India, accounting for nearly 30% of the Indian smartphone market.

Tech experts say the ban could affect the operations of the devices as well as network access. But Xiaomi India has come out to say that the ban “will not impact the performance of the devices”. The company also stated it will reach out to the Indian government in order to seek clarification of its position. Users are also enjoined to download other mobile browsers.
