Screen technology has made quite a progress in recent years and thus, we are now seeing devices with a foldable display, under-display sensors, and more. Now, it seems that China-based Huawei is gearing up to unveil a new display technology.

A report from LetsGoDigital reveals that Huawei has filed a trademark application for a new type of display. The company is trademarking two names — MateDisplay and MateScreen, but nothing much is known about it at this point. It is being speculated that this could be for the upcoming MateBook X laptop or a new foldable smartphone.

Since the trademark is for MateDisplay and MateScreen, it’s pretty much confirmed that the new type of screen is limited to the Mate lineup of devices from Huawei. While the company has not revealed anything, we expect to know about it in the coming days.

Most of the reports hint at the new display being used in the upcoming MateBook X laptop but there’ a possibility that it could be for the upcoming foldable smartphone. The Huawei Mate X or Mate Xs have an outwards folding screen but its successor will have an in-ward folding display and thus, the name could be for this new screen technology.

The Huawei Mate lineup is well-known for the high-end flagship smartphones but the company is now looking to expand the lineup to include more products. It is reportedly planning to launch wireless earphones in the form of MatePods or MateBuds and a docking station named MateStation. It could also launch a smartwatch under the Mate branding. If this is the case, then we should know more about it in the coming months.
