Google is known for more than its search engine. One of the most used services by the internet giant is Google Docs. It is a cloud-based word processor that comes free with every Google account. Now, the Android app for this service has hit 1 billion installs on the Play Store.
The Google Docs Android app was released in 2014. This app is not part of the mandatory GMS package and therefore, it took 6 years to reach 1 billion downloads on the Google Play Store.
The application crossed 500 million downloads in October 2018 after 4 years from its launch, however, it achieved to surpass the next 500 million just within 2 years. As Android Police suggests, this could be mostly because people around the world have been working and continuing their education at home since the beginning of 2020.
As Google Docs is a free-to-use service, it is the most preferred word processor. Mostly because of its cloud-based features. Also, there are numerous institutions and enterprises that use Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) which includes Google Docs.
All of these above-mentioned factors could have made people download this app on your Android smartphones, tablets, and Chromebooks.
