The semiconductor equipment sales have increased by a sizeable 30 percent worldwide in the third quarter of this year. This figure is a significant bump over the same quarter from back in 2019.

According to TheElec report based on a SEMI analysis, the global sales of semiconductor equipment reached 19.4 billion US Dollars in Q3 2020. Out of this, China accounted for a notable 5.62 billion US Dollars. This was closely followed by Taiwan with 4.75 billion US Dollars. South Korea arrived third with 4.22 billion US Dollars, despite semiconductor equipment sales dropping by 6 percent in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter, but still saw an impressive jump of 92 percent over the same period last year.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix were notable figures and 2020 marked an increase in expenditure from both companies, which likely led to the growth. The former even began operations at its P2 line at its Pyeongtaek factory back in August. The South Korean tech giant has even signed contracts that are collectively worth 87.2 billion Won (or roughly 80 million US Dollars) in the third quarter for semiconductor equipment. Similarly, SK Hynix also signed two contracts worth 30.9 billion Won (roughly 28 million US Dollars) as well.
