Korean tech giant LGĀ Display has continued to improve on its display technology, one of its main strongholds. The company held an event yesterday at the virtual CES 2021 where it announced a number of products and new display technology. The display maker equally took the wraps off a 42-inch, the smallest OLED smart TV and a newĀ 83-inch panel size that likely features in the Bravia lineup that Sony unveiled a few days ago.
The announcement throws up the possibility of getting OLED TVs this year in sizes such as 42, 48, 55, 65, 77, 83, and 88 inches. The display maker also hinted that it is shipping a ānext-generationā 77-inch panel thatās said to be around 20 percent more efficient and therefore capable of higher brightness than before, which has been a relative disadvantage of OLED TVs to date.
LG Display is a components manufacturer and doesnāt release consumer products itself, so itās unclear whoās actually going to put a 42-inch TV on sale this year. The larger LG Electronics company is yet to fully unveil its 2021 range of OLED TVs, but according to a report in the Korean website Yonhap, itāll be using āOLED evoā branding for the new panels in its 2021 āG1ā series.
LG Display equally announced several headline-grabbing products at CES 2021 such as the āSmart Bedā concept with a transparent OLED panel that rises out of the foot, along with a 48-inch flexible panel that can shift from a flatscreen TV into a curved gaming monitor. The company also teased its upcoming rollable smartphone dubbed LG Rollable.
