For the keen observers, Android users of the Google Chrome browser may have noticed the new tabs group feature that was recently activated on Google Android. The new feature gives a very nice overview of all open tabs and groups tabs together to enhance the compactness and appeal of the overall tab layout.

Now, the new tabs group feature will now be available on Google Chrome for desktop. This comes after a series of rigorous and extensive trials of the feature. The tabs group feature on the desktop version of Google Chrome will prove to be an invaluable tool to quickly organize a user’s browsing activities for enhanced productivity. It would help the user to declutter the environment without necessarily closing tabs which may still be needed.

There are indications that users of the Google Chrome browser for Android will soon be able to see and activate the Follow button feature on Google Chrome for Android. It enables the Chrome desktop or ChromeOS user to create new groups by right-clicking the selected tab. You can add some spice to the layout by giving it a color and name before creating the group. In addition, you can select multiple tabs by pressing shift while clicking the left mouse button.

As should be expected, while some users have welcomed the new functionality with aplomb, some have expressed skepticism on the utility of the new tab group feature to help declutter and enhance productivity. Some see it as tokenistic, as anyone can easily declutter his workspace by closing tabs no longer needed, rather than going through the tab group feature.

As more users of Google Chrome embrace the tab group feature across all platforms, its utility will be revealed. For now, we await further developments.
