OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro will ship with ColorOS 11.2 based on Android 11 in China. OnePlus calls this the ColorOS for OnePlus. That is, it’s essentially a tweaked UI but also has certain features of HydrogenOS retained. If you aren’t aware of the ColorOS, it is the Android skin of OPPO which also happens to be OnePlus’ sister brand.

OnePlus and OPPO have been getting closer with their relationship and a majority of their shares are already owned by a common OPlus(Oujia Holding Limited). Earlier this year, they merged their R&D department with each other but iterated that uniqueness in software will continue.

Just a few months later, they u-turned and officially announced the transition from HydrogenOS to ColorOS in China. Anyway, at the event, OnePlus said that the following devices can be upgraded to the ColorOS 11.2 via update:

That said, OnePlus said that till they receive this, it will continue to keep the HydrogenOS updated. However, it hasn’t specified a specific rollout timeline yet so we will have to wait for the official word.

OnePlus recently released a flashable ColorOS beta build for the OnePlus 8 users so I guess it might get the stable update sooner than others.
