Design

If you need the most elegant and original design, you should opt for the Realme GT Neo. Its color variants are very attractive and the phone is also more compact. But if you are a gamer, go for the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition without thinking twice. It comes with a glass back and additional physical keys you can use as gaming triggers. It is not an elegant phone, but definitely a unique one. Further, it has the IP53 certification which makes it dust resistant and splash resistant, so you even get a great build quality. Both the front and the rear glass are protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5.

Display

The most advanced display belongs to the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition. It is an OLED panel that can show up to one billion colors, it comes with a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, a 500 nit typical brightness, and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. With the Realme GT Neo, you get a Super AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate, but the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition is actually superior and it even offers a wider diagonal with 6.67 inches. Note that Realme GT Neo has an in-display fingerprint reader, while it is side-mounted on the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition.

Specs & Software

The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition and the Realme GT Neo are able to offer the same performance level. They are both powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 mobile platform which is actually the best SoC released by MediaTek. The chipset is paired with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The phones run Android 11 out of the box, customized by MIUI and Realme UI, respectively. With the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition, you have more choices in terms of memory configurations, but it is a draw.

Camera

Even the camera setups are more or less the same. On the paper, the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition looks slightly superior because it comes with a brighter focal aperture for the main camera (f/1.7 aperture), but the sensors are the same: a 64 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2 MP macro camera. Both the phones sport a 16 MP front snapper as well.

Battery

The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition is able to offer a longer battery life thanks to its bigger battery: the capacity is 5065 mAh, while Realme GT Neo has just 4500 mAh. The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition also comes with a faster charging technology, thanks to a 65W power. Realme GT Neo stops at 50W, but given that its battery is smaller, we expect similar charging times. None of these phones supports wireless charging, neither reverse charging.

Price

Redmi K40 Gaming Edition carries a starting price of about €389/$475 at the actual change, while Realme GT Neo starts from about €260/$318 in its base variant with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage. The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition is actually a superior phone thanks to its better display, bigger battery, better build quality. But the Realme GT Neo has a higher value for money as it offers all the power of the Dimensity 1200 chipset at an incredibly affordable price. Unfortunately, none of these phones is available in the global market.
