OnePlus is one of the several OEMs part of the Android 12 Beta program. However, the brand had to pull the builds for the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro soon after their release due to bugs. Over two weeks later, the company has finally re-released these builds.

OnePlus 9 Pro Android 12 Developer Preview

The OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro are the brand’s flagship smartphones of 2021. The OnePlus 9R, on the other hand, is only sold in India and China. Hence, the company has only released Android 12 Beta builds for the former two devices.

Although Google calls this program Android 12 Beta, most OEMs, including OnePlus, call it Android 12 Developer Preview. Anyway, the software builds offered by each company is different from one another.

According to Max Weinbach, the Android 12 Developer Preview builds for the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro appear to be ColorOS and not OxygenOS.

That said, the initial builds had an issue, which made the phones get stuck Factory Reset Protection (FRP) check. OnePlus says that it has fixed this bug in the new builds. However, like any other OEM, it recommends users to not install these builds if they have no experience in software development.

Here’s the list of known issues, as per the company.

  • All data will be cleared while flashing the build
  • Video call function is not available
  • Fingerprint unlock and face unlock are unavailable
  • Certain UI screens look less than desirable
  • Some apps may not function as expected
  • System stability issues
  • Probability of camera crash when HDR mode enabled.

Last but not least, since OnePlus warns about the risk of bricking phones, we would recommend not to try these builds if you are not familiar with beta software.
