Honor is finally back and it is back with a premium smartphone series. The most advanced variant of the new lineup is the Honor 50 Pro, even though it does not have flagship-class specifications. It is a premium phone, but with a very interesting price tag. That is what led us to compare it with the vanilla OnePlus 9, a flagship killer with a very advantageous price (and even better street prices) offering everything a typical user would expect. Let’s discover together the differences between their specifications.

Design
The most stunning design belongs to the Honor 50 Pro. Its matte and brilliant finish at the same time makes it unique, as well as its circular camera modules. It also comes with a curved edge-to-edge display making it even more elegant. The OnePlus 9 still remains a phone with a very interesting design which includes a glass back and a more compact body. With the OnePlus 9, you also get the IP68 certification making it waterproof and dustproof, but only in the variant sold by the T-Mobile carrier in the U.S.
Display
The Honor 50 Pro has a superior display to the OnePlus 9. Both the phones come with OLED panels, but the Honor 50 Pro is able to show up to one billion colors, while the OnePlus 9 is not. The handsets also have a refresh rate of 120 Hz and the Full HD+ resolution, as well as an in-display fingerprint reader. The Honor 50 Pro has a wider panel with a diagonal of 6.72 inches, so it is better for those who seek productivity and gamers. The OnePlus 9 is more compact with its 6.55-inch screen. Not everyone may like the dual punch hole of the Honor 50 Pro, but it is not a big compromise.
Specs & Software
The OnePlus 9 wins the hardware comparison first of all because it is powered by a stronger chipset. We are talking about the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform, which is Qualcomm’s best chipset seen on a phone as of now. The SoC is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, the Honor 50 Pro is fueled by a midrange-class mobile platform: the Snapdragon 778G paired with just 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of native storage. The phones run Android 11 out of the box and the Honor 50 Pro is the first device after the separation from Huawei to include the Google Mobile Services for the global market.
Camera
Do you need the best rear camera? Then you should go for the OnePlus 9 without thinking twice. It has a triple camera setup composed of a 48 MP main sensor with omnidirectional autofocus (it supports 8K video recording), a great 50 MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2 MP monochromatic camera. Honor 50 Pro has a very nice 108 MP main camera, but it can not compete with the OnePlus 9. On the other hand, it offers a better front camera department which consists of a dual camera with 12 and 32 MP resolutions, including an ultrawide sensor.
Battery
Thanks to its bigger 4500 mAh battery, the OnePlus 9 is able to provide a longer battery life. It also comes with a smaller display and a chipset built with a better production process, so it consumes less energy. Last but not least, besides wired fast charging, it features wireless charging. The Honor 50 Pro has a way smaller battery and it is definitely not a battery phone due to just 4000 mAh. It lacks wireless charging, but it has a faster charging technology with a high power of 100W.
Price
Honor 50 Pro is priced at less than €595/$700 in Asia but it is still not available in the global market, so we do not know how much it will cost there. You can actually find the OnePlus 9 for less than €700/$825 globally. The OnePlus 9 wins the comparison due to a bigger battery, better chipset, and rear camera, but the Honor 50 Pro has a more beautiful design, a better display, faster charging, and better front cameras. We can not give a verdict regarding the value for money for global customers as we still do not know the global price of the Honor 50 Pro.
