Sony PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is a disc-free console and uses the PlayStation Network account sign-in for in-game purchases and to download from the PlayStation Store. It comes with 825GB of internal storage and some in-built games, as well as a long list of impressive features. The absence of a disc compartment could be part of why the new model is lighter than the original, although there could be other reasons not yet specified. A complete teardown of the PS5 Digital Edition is needed before being specific on the device’s internal changes.

Apart from a new thumbscrew that makes for easier installation of the vertical stand for the console and the absence of a disc compartment, there are no visible differences between the PS5 Digital Edition and its predecessor. The new console guarantees lightning-fast loading with an ultra-high-speed SSD, 3D audio, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and access to very compelling and incredible new PlayStation games from the PlayStation Store. When connected to an HDR-compliant TV, the console produces 4K-TV gaming videos, with vibrant and life-like colors displayed for an immersive gaming experience.

The lightweight nature of the PS5 Digital Edition could also be that more efficient, and lightweight internal components were used for the new console, resulting in a significantly lighter model.
