Sony PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is a disc-free console and uses the PlayStation Network account sign-in for in-game purchases and to download from the PlayStation Store. It comes with 825GB of internal storage and some in-built games, as well as a long list of impressive features. It seems Sony has silently introduced the PS5 Digital Edition (CFI-11000B) in its home market of Japan, while it could be available globally by the end of July 2021.

The absence of a disc compartment could be part of why the new model is lighter than the original, although there could be other reasons not yet specified. When connected to an HDR-compliant TV, the console produces 4K-TV gaming videos, with vibrant and life-like colors displayed for an immersive gaming experience.
The lightweight nature of the PS5 Digital Edition could also be that more efficient, and lightweight internal components were used for the new console, resulting in a significantly lighter model.
