Motorola Edge 20 series launched with OLED displays and 108MP triple cameras

Sorry, but no curved display

You’d expect a phone with Edge in its name to have a curved display, but Motorola told us that isn’t a standard rule when it announced the Motorola Edge S announced in January. In case the lesson didn’t stick, it has now announced three new Edge phones and none of them has a curved screen. However, the Motorola Edge 20 Pro, Edge 20, and Edge 20 Lite do have some pretty interesting specs including a 108MP camera on all three models.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro and Motorola Edge 20

The Edge 20 Pro is the leader of the pack and it gets all of the best features. It has a 6.67-inch 10-bit OLED display with DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR10+, Amazon HDR, and an impressive 144Hz refresh rate. It also has a centered punch hole for the front-facing camera. The Edge 20 has the same display size, type, and features, save for the lack of support for Amazon HDR.

Powering the Motorola Edge 20 Pro is the Snapdragon 870 processor, the same one that made its global debut in the Edge S a.k.a. Moto G100. There is 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It also has two features called Turbo Write and Host-Aware Performance Booster.

The Motorola Edge 20 comes with the less-powerful Snapdragon 778G processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. It also misses out on the fast writing speed and performance booster of the pro model.

There is a primary 108MP rear camera on both phones. In addition, the Edge 20 Pro has an 8MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom and 50x superzoom and a 16MP ultrawide angle camera that can shoot macro photographs. The Pro model can also shoot in 8K.

The Edge 20 also has an 8MP camera but with 3x optical zoom and 30x superzoom and a 16MP ultrawide angle camera that doubles as a macro camera. Both phones have a 32MP front-facing camera.

The Edge 20 Pro has a 4500mAh battery while the Edge 20 has a smaller 4000mAh battery but both phones support 30W TurboPower fast charging. The two phones run Android 11 with My UX on top. They also come with the Ready For PC feature that allows the phone to be connected to an external display to use in desktop mode, serve as a webcam, or as a gaming console.

Motorola Edge 20 Lite

The Motorola Edge 20 Lite also has a 6.67-inch 10-bit OLED display with DCI-P3 color gamut and HDR10+. Its refresh rate is lower at 90Hz and it also misses out on Amazon HDR support.

Powering the phone is MediaTek’s Dimensity 720 processor and it is paired with 8GB  of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 108MP primary rear camera comes along with an 8MP ultrawide angle camera that can also take macro photos and a 2MP depth camera. Its front-facing camera is a 32MP sensor too.

Unlike its siblings which have an in-display fingerprint scanner, the Edge 20 Lite has a side-mounted scanner. However, it does have a water-repellent design, ThinkShield Security for mobile, support for Ready For albeit with fewer features, and Wi-Fi 6.

Motorola gives the Edge 20 Lite a bigger 5000mAh battery and adds support for 30W TurboPower fast charging. It runs My UX based on Android 11 out of the box.

According to Nils Ahrensmeier of Techniknews, Motorola has revealed that all three phones will receive OS upgrades and security updates for two years. So we should see them receive Android 12 and Android 13 updates.
