Xiaomi has apparently started accepting cryptocurrency payments in Portugal. The company official retailer, Mi Store Portugal, has recently made the decision to accept payments from known digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
According to a BolNews report, the Chinese tech giant may now support payments from Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and even Dash for the purchase of smartphone, smartwatches, along with other smart home products and devices. Xiaomi has partnered up with Utrust, a Swiss cryptocurrency payment service provider, to support payment via digital assets in the region.
As per Pedro Maia, head of marketing at Mi Store Portugal, “We are a technological, innovative and disruptive brand. That’s why we always want to be one step ahead. We want to give the possibility to all true technology fans to buy their favorite gadgets with what is currently the most technological money.” For those unaware, Portugal is one of the governments that is friendly towards cryptocurrency among the various European nations due to its tax laws.
So, it arrives as nor surprise that the brand has chosen Portugal as a trial run for digital asset payments. Notably, while the South Korean smartphone maker Samsung also launched a blockchain wallet back in 2019, its retail stores have yet to accept cyrptocurrency.
