Xiaomi had just announced the highly anticipated Mi MIX 4 earlier this week. The smartphone arrived with top notch specs and features and was the company’s first to sport an under display selfie camera on the front. So now, lets take a look at the 5 features that makes the Mi MIX 4 so unique.

1. CUP Full Screen Technology

As the name suggests, the Mi MIX 4 offers a full front screen experience to the users as the essential components like proximity and ambient light sensors along with the selfie shooter are housed under the display. CUP or Camera Under Panel design is the company’s proprietary under-display camera technology and has been in development for over five years, spanning three major generations, sixty patents, and a whopping 77 million US Dollars investment and hundreds of engineers.

We had even covered a recent tear-down video of the Mi MIX 4, which showcased the cutouts for the UD camera and essential sensors. To the naked eyes, these cutouts are virtually invisible and can only be seen when intense light is passed through the display. Furthermore, the CUP technology even offers an impressive 400ppi pixel density on top of the UD camera region. Xiaomi achieved this feat by using a new transparent curved wiring Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) material along with imaging algorithms.

2. Point and Control Always On UWB

A major feature that arrived with the newly launched Mi MIX 4 is the integration of the Chinese tech giant’s unique UWB technology. In practice, this lets users connect to any compatible smart home products by simply pointing at them. Or in other words, a simple “Point to Connect” functionality lets users control Xiaomi’s AIoT devices immediately after being paired with the Mi MIX 4. For those unaware, UWB stands for Ultra-Wideband, which is essentially a low energy short-range high bandwidth communication that fills the same role as Bluetooth.

3. System Level AI Translation and Privacy

Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 also features a system level AI Translation as well. This allows Mi MIX 4 users to transcribe and translate audio, along with the usual text and photos translation. Notably, the device is capable of generating on-device translations in real-time, even adding subtitles that can be used for communicating between different languages.

Additionally, the company also placed a special emphasis on security that prevents unauthorized shutdown, disconnect prevention, and other data protection features as well. Even if you lose your Mi MIX 4, Xiaomi protects your personal information while also offering SIM lock feature that requires one to re-enter your password to activate a new SIM being used on the device.

4. Adaptive Signal Optimization and Manual Signal Entry

The smartphone maker has even brought in improvements in networking and signal reception as well. The Mi MIX 4 boosts antenna performance by using a unique interior metal case as an antenna amplifier. Although, a highlight aspect in networking is also its adaptive controls that allow for further optimizations for signals that speed up connection when needed.

The Mi MIX 4 arrives with 19 inbuilt antennas and supports 42 bands with signal quality optimizations for 8 scenarios. While it supports automatic identification of the environment around it, it also offers users a manual location entry system to further optimize signal quality in high traffic areas.

5. 50W Fast Wireless Charging!

Xiaomi has been one of the pioneers when it comes to smartphone fast charging technology. It has even been one of the market leaders for wireless charging tech as well in the smartphone industry. The Mi MIX 4 supports a whopping 120W wired fast charging support while it can even be charged wireless by up to 50W. The device also supports an intelligent fast charging modulation algorithm that helps regulate temperatures during charging and speeds for different scenarios as well.
