The Chinese electric-scooter market has just welcomed another ultra-affordable and lightweight e-scooter. The Honda U-BE e-scooter, weighing just 54kg and priced at 3,099 yuan ($477), is one of the cheapest electric two-wheelers in the market.Honda U-BE electric scooter

A simple and clean design is adopted in the design and manufacture of the Honda U-BE, which comes just weeks after the company unveiled the U-GO e-scooter, with some excellent features including a removable battery and 1.2kW power hub motor. Unlike the pricier U-GO, the U-BE can only accommodate the driver, as there is no extra room for a passenger. It has a high-quality two-color saddle, and its size makes it a compact model that can be easily parked even in a cramped parking space. Its weight also indicates that it can be easily maneuvered out of a blocked enclosure with little stress.

The Honda U-BE e-scooter has integrated signal lights at the front and rear of the two-wheeler. It also comes with an LCD display that indicates various details like speed, mileage, battery percentage, and other stats.Honda U-BE electric scooter

The unveiling of the U-BE by Wuyang Honda, which is the Chinese two-wheeler arm of Japanese giant Honda, reflects the plans of the company to have a firm footing in the massively expanding market. There are plans underway to also scale up the production of these models for export to other markets in the US and Europe.Honda U-BE electric scooter

The U-BE has a 350W hub motor which offers a top speed of 25kmph, which is not too bad for the city commute. Its price and ability to take its owner to all parts of the city is the key design objective, and Honda hopes that a segment of the demography will embrace the very affordable e-scooter, which is even far cheaper than some mid-range and flagship smartphone models. Three battery options are available for the Honda U-BE and these can offer a driving range between 55km and 80km.
